Senior Scientist for Pectin Development

We are looking for a Senior Scientist to help us expand new value-adding pectin products for the food and beverage industries. You will investigate pectin and its relationships between functionality in relevant applications, physico-chemical properties, molecular structures, processing technologies and raw materials. You will work within our community of Technology & Innovation in close collaboration with global application specialists, product managers and colleagues within quality, regulatory, engineering and manufacturing to develop solutions for our customers. You will work in our Systems, Texturants and Emulsifiers R&D group and be responsible for development of new pectin products addressing the global food and beverage industries. The position will be based in Brabrand, Denmark, at the DuPont hub for food and feed innovation. Some travel activity may become relevant with an estimated load of up to 20 travel days per year. Title and pay level will balance your qualifications.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop pectin products based on new or improved functionalities, to be used in a wide range of food and beverage applications, in alignment with business and market needs

  • Manage own projects as technical lead in collaboration with project managers and project team

  • Design and execute experimental plan, derive knowledge through hands-on laboratory work and interpret results through a data driven approach

  • Document knowledge in technical reports, technical presentations (external and internal) and create input for new inventions

  • Provide technical guidance to customers and collaborative partners such as lab technicians, scientists, application specialists, production sites, product managers and sales representatives

  • Partner with our DuPont N&H world-class scientific community and strengthen it with your external network to understand and utilize foundational physico-chemical properties of pectin in food and beverage applications


Candidate Profile:

  • Chemist, Biotechnologist or Food Scientist (Engineer, Master or PhD) with minimum 5 years of relevant and documented experience within pectin development

  • Knowledge of and experience with pectin functionality, molecular structure and characterization is an advantage

  • Excellent teamwork & communication skills for working in a global and multidisciplinary scientific environment

  • Visionary, outgoing, curious and proactive personality with an open mindset

  • Fluent in English at a professional level

  • Experience with statistical tools and practical experimental design is an advantage

  • Good practical and theoretical understanding of daily challenges in both research and production unit settings is an advantage
