Reporting to the European support Lead, this position will be part of a team delivering software and computer support for multi-crop researchers throughout Europe. The Senior Research Associate for DSI provides computer and software support for multi-disciplinary research staff including, but not limited to: software training, data management, workflow processes, software management, data integrity assistance, consulting services and implication in project work related to software applications.

The successful applicant will be part of a team providing software support for researchers working in product development. They will be expected to:

  • Provide support and troubleshooting for research software applications.

  • Deliver exemplary training in the use of software and database applications.

  • Resolve issues related to hardware such as printers, scales, and mobile data collection devices.

  • Participate in station activities to expand knowledge of research processes and best enable research users with IM solutions.

  • Generate alternative solutions to researcher IM needs through imaginative use of exiting tools.

  • Facilitate information management by analyzing research needs, providing ad-hoc data analysis and reporting.

  • Collaborate with software development staff to provide solutions, while validating and testing newly developed software.

  • Collaborate with DSI and Breeding groups globally to enable the deployment of required systems and applications that support research processes and data.

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in Plant genetics/Plant breeding, Agronomy, Information Management or equivalent amount of relevant education and experience, or B.S. degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience.

Competencies & Experience:

Science Competencies

  • Experience or expertise in field-based breeding in hybrid crops, genetic mapping or molecular breeding, plant pathology, agronomy.

  • Knowledge of molecular markers and the scientific application of genetic data.

IM Competencies

  • Working knowledge of personal computer software, mobile data collection devices, internet technology and their application to plant breeding and genetics.

  • Experience in data management, data analysis and reporting tools, and software.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Excel for processing, analysis and presentation of research data.

  • Ability to coordinate software training and support for clients by managing projects and implementing solutions.

General Competencies

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities in a multi-task work environment.

  • Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills are essential.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including leadership and empathy.

  • Capability to work with complex quantities of data and analyses; ability to extract, summarize, and report large amounts of data.

  • Understanding of information security concepts for a research organization, including highest ethical behavior.

  • English is mandatory
