The Hytrel® plant has an exciting and rewarding growth and development opportunity for a Manufacturing Technology Engineer located at the Cooper River Site in Moncks Corner, SC. This business unit is part of the Transportation and Advanced Polymers business within the Specialty Products Division of DowDupont.

The Manufacturing Technology Engineer role is responsible for developing and executing engineering solutions to continuously improve process capability in the areas of safety, productivity, reliability, and quality. The individual will work with the business supply chain scheduler to effectively utilize the plant’s capacity and product mix in an optimum manner.


  • Understands and coaches others in all applicable process technology, equipment and process automation technology.

  • Works with plant operations team to optimize operations to meet business and plant goals. (Safety, Health & Environment, quality, productivity, energy intensity, and reliability).

  • Understands and applies, Deference to Expertise, Sensitivity to Operations, Reluctance to Simplify, Preoccupation with Failure and Resilience to promote the development of a Highly Reliable Organization (HRO)

  • Participates in advanced trouble shooting and coaches others to learn these skills. Ensures findings are documented in plant Operating Discipline for future usage.

  • Diagnoses and documents the root causes of asset utilization (AU) losses.

  • Lead and participate in Root Cause Investigations (RCI) for situations meeting investigation trigger criteria

  • Provide coaching in the day-to-day decision making to the operations team.

  • As required participates on and leads teams in his/her area of accountability

  • Networks with other engineers on site and within the business to leverage knowledge of plant operations

  • Ensures Most Effective Technology (MET) is understood and utilized.

  • Ensures Operating Discipline / Management System requirements are met.

  • Implements standardized best practices to optimize operations.

  • Understands and applies skills and knowledge in statistical process control

  • Use statistical analysis methods to produce data based decisions and results

  • Works with process automation resources to ensure process control is optimized in the facility and drives improvement

  • Supports plant roles in procedure usage, creation, reviews, updates and approvals when assigned.

  • As required communicate technical information and issues to plant personnel, centers of excellence and other expertise centers.

  • Works with the plant team and Quality Coordinator to continuously improve product quality performance (yield, customer complaints, etc.) and to maintain external quality certifications such as ISO 9001:2015.

  • Serve as a Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) resource to lead PHAs for the site.

  • Serve as PSM Element Lead as assigned.

  • Assists with implementation of Process Safety Management safety principles.

  • Follows process safety requirements in Change of Design, Management of Changes related to improvement projects.

  • Ensures effective new raw material and/or new product introduction in accordance with new product introduction process.

  • Perform periodic tasks required to maintain compliance with the plant’s license to operate and certification to ISO-14001

  • Provide training in responsible area as process Subject Matter Expert (SME) to technical staff and operations as needed.

  • The successful candidate is sometimes required to manage issues on off-hours or holidays.


Minimum requirements:

  • BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years previous industrial manufacturing experience. Experience in continuous and batch chemical processes is preferred.

  • Solid demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and a high-volume workload with shifting and competing priorities

  • Strong teamwork and organization skills

  • Understanding and demonstrated use of Six Sigma methodology

  • Experience with Process Safety Management

  • Good collaboration skills: Must work with multiple groups to achieve business objectives and personnel success with diplomacy and tact.

  • Courageous Leadership: Must be able to chart paths that are not routine and gain support to achieve success though influence.

Other desired experience:

  • Previous experience with oriented films

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certified

  • Lean manufacturing experience
