Research Scientist, Imaging and Computational Geometry (Job Number: 191468W-01)

We are currently seeking an Imaging Researcher with a background in image analysis, computer vision, 3-D modeling to join our team at in Johnston, Iowa. This is a critical position with the potential to make immediate, significant impact on our business. The successful candidate will have an extensive background and track record in software development, image or data analysis or computer vision. She/he will work closely with other imaging specialists, software engineers, and data scientists in a dynamic research environment to design and implement sophisticated end-to-end solutions for image-based plant phenotyping and field trials (remote sensing, satellite imagery, crop modeling). The candidate will need to have an in-depth understanding of imaging theory, technologies & techniques and can independently create technical solutions to a wide range of image analysis problems requiring collaboration with key stakeholders.
The job position will be based in Johnston, Iowa. The successful candidate will coordinate and collaborate closely with scientists across a global network of research sites. Intermittent international travel will be required
Development of analytic algorithms for the calculation, estimation or prediction of crop phenotypes from image and sensor data.
Quickly create prototype solutions on Unix / Linux platforms that are scalable for AWS implementation.
Drive disruptive change throughout the organization to further the adoption of novel technologies
Communicate clearly, and concisely using both written and verbal skills with colleagues and collaborators. Promote positive and professional attitude and cooperative work relationships
Serve on teams for hardware and software development, crop modeling and phenotypic trait development activities and provide critical feedback throughout the process
Stay abreast of relevant technologies via a combination of scientific reading, attendance at scientific conferences, technology scouting, connecting with vendors and potential public and private collaborators / service providers and leverage knowledge into company product development efforts.
M.S. in Image Analysis, Computer Vision, Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence or related field and 2-4 years of demonstrated experience delivering solutions in the field.
Strong programming skills in Python and C++.
Experience working with open source computer vision and 3D geometry libraries and toolkits such as VTK, CGAL, PCL, ROS, OpenCV, ORB_SLAM, VLFeat, SciKit-Image, Blender, and MeshLab
Experience working with open source machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, Torch, Theano, and Caffe.
Practical high performance computing experience, including use of AWS (EC2, S3, ECS, etc.) and experience with data intensive applications.
Inquisitive nature with the interest, ability, drive and determination to constantly evaluate, refine and assist in deployment of novel (or existing) phenotyping techniques.
Demonstrated ability to work in dynamic scientific teams, strong communication skills, and demonstrated ability to contribute to complex research projects performed under tight deadlines
Superlative communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Convolutional Neural Networks, Deep Learning for Imaging Applications, Generative Image Models is highly desirable.
Experience working with geospatial images and toolsets - infrared, multispectral, point-cloud, spatial databases and/or photogrammetry is highly desirable.
