Corteva Agriscience™, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont™ is seeking an experienced Senior Research Associate to join our Controlled Environments Seed Processing Team in Johnston, Iowa. In this role you will utilize your agronomy expertise to support the seed handling team by leading the seed quality testing and equipment validations. You’ll provide support for the seed processing staff in threshing activities, seed processing, inventory and seed request while focusing on managing compliance and stewardship. The selected individual will also be responsible for supplies inventory and purchasing for Controlled Environments. The individual will lead and support internal research to improve internal seed processing such as drying and storage, and will help manage and implement technological tools and information management systems to proactively improve upon existing approaches.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage,supervise, and schedule all seed quality and equipment validation tasksfor a Research Associate and temporary employees. Evaluate and analyzeresearch for seed quality, operations, and personnel in order toproactively implement processing improvements and assist collaborators toensure experiment success. Communicates changes and new approacheswith collaborators and team. Ensure all seed quality analysis generated isavailable to all researchers. Effectively and positively communicate seedquality status updates with collaborators and provide timely andinformative status updates of the team to leadership.

  • Participatein the evaluation of harvest, threshing and turnaround time metrics forall crops and suggest and implement changes to improve operationalexcellence. Ensure that the seed handling team is implementing all Regulatory andCompliance procedures involving seed processing and post-harvestactivities. Support CE staff by conducting internal audits and room auditshas needed.

  • Ensureto track depletion rates of consumables, identify, research and evaluatevendors, compare and negotiate prices. Track orders and deliveries,coordinate the proper transportation and storage and assist in thepurchase of special items.


The following are required:

  • Bachelor’sdegree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Seed Science and Technology, or Biologyand at least two years of professional experience in a seed processingfacility, research field station, or greenhouse environment.

  • Abilityto work around corn, soybeans, wheat, sunflower and sorghum, as well aspollen, dust and noise for long periods of time

  • Musthave the ability to meet deadlines, pay attention to detail, a provenability to succeed in a team environment

  • Abilityto train other employees, be self-motivated and able to work well withothers and independently with minimal supervision

  • Proficientuser of Microsoft programs, in particular Excel

  • Strongcommunication and interpersonal skills

  • Detailoriented with a history of organizational excellence and accuracy

  • Willingnessand ability to work with repetitive task and motions while maintaininghigh attention to detail

  • Willingnessand ability to work overtime and weekends when necessary

The following are preferred:

  • Master’sdegree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Seed Science and Technology, or Biology

  • Knowledgein seed testing activities, seed count, vigor, germination and drying

  • Plantpollination or threshing experience with corn, soybean, wheat, sorghum orsunflower

  • IowaSeed Treatment License
