Description

Position provides for engineer to lead the instrumentation and assist the electrical functions on projects. Responsibilities also include consulting for all instrumentation and identifying/managing electrical consulting needs.

Project responsibilities include:

  • Basic data package origination

  • Project cost control

  • Creation of design schedules and reconciliation with other disciplines

  • Author of scopes-of-work

  • Author of equipment specifications

  • Design leader for multiple designers and engineers

  • All aspects of design including but not limited to:

  • Application of Codes, Standards, & Regulations

  • LOPA

  • PSR responsibilities

  • PHA

  • (Area Classification)

  • (Electrical System Studies)

  • (Utility interface where applicable)

  • Participation in vendor acceptance tests and site commissioning efforts

Instrumentation Consulting responsibilities include:

  • Pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters

  • Machine Safety/Safety Instrumented Systems and their use in PHA and LOPAs

  • DCS (Distributed Control Systems)

  • PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers)

  • Burner Management Systems and their use in PHA and LOPAs

  • Alarm Management and its use in PHA and LOPAs

Electrical Identification/Management Consulting responsibilities include:

  • Protective Relays

  • Motor Control Centers

  • Motors

  • Adjustable Speed Drives

  • Heating

  • Lighting

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications:

BS or MS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering. Candidate with an equivalent degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering who have demonstrated instrumentation engineering proficiency and who meet the remaining skills/experience requirements will also be considered.

Experience:

  • 5 – 15 years of experience in the Chemical Process or related industries with the working knowledge of instruments as well as their failure analysis and repair procedures

  • Knowledge of related plant operational practices such as Process Safety Management and MIQA (preferably)

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to plan, prioritize, and implement multiple concurrent projects or activities

  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-motivated, and able to function independent of supervision

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to evaluate existing instrumentation (& electrical equipment) and utilize engineering design processes to improve safety and reliability needs
