Summary:

The Senior Quality Engineer defines the direction and objectives to meet the quality assurance needs for Kevlar® Fibers and Polymer operations at the Spruance Plant. This includes maintaining standards of product quality and improving the effectiveness of internal processes. The Senior Quality Engineer generates and maintains quality data and metrics, supports and drives quality improvement initiatives as part of a continuous improvement philosophy.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the qualityrequirements for ISO9001: 2015 and other quality standards are implemented andmaintained at the Kevlar® Spruance Plant.

  • Identifies andperforms corrective and preventative actions related to quality managementsystem improvement, customer satisfaction, quality related aspects of supplierand manufacturing.

  • Establishes qualitymanagement system procedures and systems to anticipate quality failure modesand prevent quality incidents.

  • Conducts1 st party and coordinate 2 nd and 3 rd partyquality audits such as ISO, customer audits and monitors the correctiveaction plans.

  • Maintains customer andproduct specifications management to included statistical analysis of propertydata and assesses the capability to meet customer specifications, as well asfollowing up on requirements that cannot be met.

  • Monitors productproperties and control and disposition of non-standard production.

  • Leadand/or participate in investigation of internal and external (customercomplaints) quality non-conformances and determine appropriate correctiveaction by coordinating team using tools such as 5 Why, FMEA’s, Root CauseAnalysis, etc. and ensure actions are effective.

  • Coordinates customercomplaint responses to customer or marketing / sales requests relating toquality information or issues.

  • Initiates, monitors,and executes quality improvement programs/events, to align with and achieveCOTs (Critical Operating Tasks) or area goals.

  • Monitorsraw material performance.

  • Supportor lead manufacturing in maintaining document control such as StandardPractice, Standard Operating Procedures, Check sheets, Tests, etc.

  • Act asa Subject Matter Expert (SME) resource for quality training, as needed, for newand existing employees.

  • Manage qualityclerical team with 2 direct reports

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand the quality standard relevant to the industry requirements (i.e. ISO 9001:2015) and the controls necessary to achieve and maintain compliance with the standards as appropriate.

  • Demonstratedability to understand, calculate, establish, and communicate key qualitymetrics including complaints, complaint frequency, cycle time & auditresults.

  • Demonstratedexperience and results in auditing, carrying out root cause failure analysisand identify and drive closure on critical corrective and preventive actions.

  • Demonstratedunderstanding and experience in data analysis and its application to improve manufacturingprocess capability.

  • Experiencein process troubleshooting, operational quality SOP/SP knowledge, customerquality change management.

  • Understanding of quality IT systems andtracking. Knowledge of the processes and flow in the operation as itrelates to quality.

  • Delivers clear and succinct oral and writtenmessages and able to make complex messages clear both internally and to ourcustomer.

  • Demonstratedleadership skills as to drive quality improvements. Required competencies: biasfor action, integrity, judgement, strong interpersonal and leadership skills,solid time management skills, change agent behavior, and superior communicationskills.

PreferredSkills:

  • Bachelordegree in Engineering or a Science related field with a minimum of 5 yearsexperience in the quality field in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • ISO 9001:2015Lead Auditor Certification required but may be obtained on the job.

  • Proficientin Minitab® and SAP and use of Microsoft programs (Excel, PowerPoint) for dataanalysis and reporting.

  • SixSigma Green Belt or higher is strongly desired.

  • Supervisory skillspreferred but not required.
