This position is located at the main business and technology center for DuPont Safety & Construction, a business unit within DuPont with supports our Kevlar®, Tyvek® and Nomex® brand products, located in Richmond, VA. This position will work within the Energy Solutions application development team which supports the Energy Solutions business segment. This business segment sells insulating materials to the electrical industry within the Nomex® family of product offerings. The applications development team is responsible for technical customer service for the Nomex® insulating products used in the industry as well as the development of new materials and new products to serve the growing market needs. The Energy Solutions business within DuPont has a strong established market and has also demonstrated solid growth performance. This business unit is well positioned to support the global growth in electrical infrastructure in transportation, electrical power delivery, wind energy growth in both established and developing regions around the world.

Specifically, the Technologist position within the DuPont Energy Solutions segment team will:

  • Collaborate with Research Scientist in the development of new or non-routine experiments or test methods.

  • Participate in new product development and commercialization activities specific to the company roadmap. This includes conducting experiments, managing complex technical operations or information search/analysis projects

  • Optimize and interpret methodologies and laboratory processes.

  • Recognize erroneous or unexpected results and suggests alternative approaches

  • Support the Research Scientist during field trails. This includes coordinating the shipment of raw materials to the test site, observing the trial in person and coordinating the shipping of the finished product.

  • Coordinate the maintenance of existing equipment and the acquisition/installation of new equipment.

  • Seek opportunities to improve the safety of the lab operation and the efficiency of tasks.

  • Coordinate the acquisition of materials and support needed to complete tasks related to laboratory experiments and product field trials. This includes the coordination of testing and/or services from other DuPont teams or 3 rd party service providers, material purchasing, and the establishment of service agreements.

Qualifications

Required education, skills, and experiences:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent in experience, or a combination of a technical degree and experience.

  • Effective interpersonal skills to lead and mentor teams and to work with others who have diverse skills, educations, and backgrounds.

  • Strong mechanical or electrical knowledge to assist in improving or modifying of complex pieces of laboratory equipment to support specialized testing needs or customer-specific requests.

  • Ability to mentor and provide guidance to laboratory technical personnel.

  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting and with designed experimentation/statistics is a plus.

  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively across functions and regions, particularly at customer interface.

  • Strong innovative and conceptual capacity

  • Results oriented; combined with attention to detail and a focus on quality

  • Ability to multi-task.
