The facility manufactures Probiotics for Human and Animal consumption and also houses Industrial Biosciences' Analytical and Microbiology Laboratories.

In this role you will be challenged with a variety of responsibilities in relation to Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) issues. The main focus of this role will be Occupational Safety and Health programs. You will be the key person ensuring Occupational Safety and Health programs and guidelines are understood and reinforced through training, coaching and leading others. In addition to this role with N&H, you will also serve as the SHE Lead for the IB Business located in the Rochester areas.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administer and provide training on the Industrial Hygiene Program (includes hearing conservation, hazard communication, respiratory protection, exposure monitoring/sampling, ergonomics, Enzyme handling and safety and heat stress prevention).

  • Administers enzyme skin prick testing program which includes providing materials for Industrial Biosciences and N&H medical surveillance and enzyme exposure.

  • Permit/report maintenance including, but not limited to, applying for and managing environmental permits, developing environmental programs, filing and submitting audits/inspections, general sampling, and proper disposal.

  • Audit for safe job performance and maintenance of safety systems, safety equipment, machine safety and plant housekeeping.

  • Review of regulatory and internal (Company) program compliance. Includes development and maintenance of Rochester SHE programs to meet all requirements of external regulatory agencies.

  • Provide compliance with all Company policies including, but not limited to, Quality, Safety, Food Safety, Environmental, GMP's, HAACP, and Attendance.

  • Develop, facilitate, and promote employee safety improvement (safety meetings, safety perception surveys, newsletters, risk assessments and conversations).

  • Coordinate worker’s compensation first report and accident investigations.



The following are required:

  • Should possess a Bachelor Degree in a related area, and 3 to 5 years Safety, Health, & Environmental affairs experience at a manufacturing and laboratory facility.

  • Must have completed basic industrial hygiene training in a NIOSH certified program.

  • Must have a good understanding of manufacturing and lab operations, in particular those specific areas of the processes that could generate and/or release harmful levels of exposure.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills, including internal and external communications with people at all levels.

  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to instruct and teach others.

  • Must be able to coach one on one with employees to explain reasoning of decisions and policies.

  • Must be able to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Must be willing to travel 15% of the time. (Local site to site travel is required)

The following are preferred :

  • Knowledge in Enzyme handling and safety experience Update

  • General Laboratory experience

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, determine root cause, and implement corrective action.

  • Experience in an industrial environment.
