SVTC Applications Engineer (Job Number: 192139W-01)


This Applications Engineer position will work closely with customers, internal and external research organizations, external partners, the sales organization, and the market development team to understand customer needs, define viable options and demonstrate our portfolio of electronic materials in complex component and device designs. Activities will include defining and/or building appropriate test fixtures, designing test protocols, running important tests, demonstrating prototype structures and suggesting new and better ways of improving customer performance.

The Applications Engineer will work closely with the materials research teams to provide guidance on the needs of customers and provide an understanding of their development roadmaps.

Given the complexity of the consumer electronics market, this person will be expected to be extremely versatile, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

This role will be focused primarily on customers in the Silicon Valley and Bay area but travel may be needed; especially to Asia.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Direct interactions and problem solving with customers

  2. Understanding and representation of the electronic products portfolio

  3. Understanding of competitive products

  4. Ability to understand different customer and product designs, gaining insight in what is critical in each case

  5. Develop test systems, protocols and/or algorithms to validate materials performance towards the customer needs

  6. Hands-on work in the Silicon Valley Technology Center applications lab on prototyping and characterization

  7. Interface with the Materials Development team to provide feedback and help direct improvements

  8. Interface with the Business Development team to better understand each customer and application needs. Leverage the learning to drive characterization the most efficient way across customers and platforms

  9. Support the Business Development team on definition of a product roadmap



  1. M.S. or above in the Physical Sciences but Chemical Engineering or Materials Science preferred

  2. 5+ years hands-on working experienced in electronics, displays, or consumer electronics product design, and/or characterization

  3. 2+ years experience in applications engineering and problem solving with customers

  4. Experience with vendors, customers and manufacturing partners in Asia

  5. Statistical analysis and experimental design

  6. Project management skills

  7. Ability to handle different projects in parallel, maintaining focus on each while leveraging cross-project learnings

  8. Fast-response ingenuity are a big plus

  9. Effective communication skills and the ability to work and influence across multiple functions
