While supporting Seed Production, our Research Assistants execute on field and seed-handling activities to meet the quality, quantity, and timeline targets for project deliverables. Research Assistants must be comfortable using computers and mobile devices, and be interested in working both indoors and in the field. Our Research Assistants must also be comfortable using computers and mobile devices. Most importantly, our ideal candidates need a collaborative attitude, good communication and critical thinking skills, and a commitment to quality.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform all tasks associatedwith the year-round production of high quality seed in sufficientquantities, which may include:

  • Planting, complex pollinating,harvesting, drying, shelling, filling seed packets, and processing seed.

  • Observing agronomic conditionof plants, interpreting and reporting any abnormalities.

  • Taking notes and collectingdata.

  • Ensure that all work isperformed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with experimentinstructions, research protocols, company policies, and regulations.

  • Communicate regularly andopenly with the team and supervisors about workflow and experiment status,especially when there are questions or problems.

  • Complete routine and moderatelycomplex duties without instruction in a timely manner and apply judgmentto resolve any roadblocks to completion.

  • Help produce and use maps,labels, envelopes, row tags, sample tags and selection tags for plants.

  • Ensure that all work isperformed in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with experimentinstructions, research protocols, company policies, and regulations.

  • Communicate regularly andopenly with the team and supervisors about workflow and experiment status,especially when there are questions or problems.

  • Participate in protocol developmentand process improvement programs (safety, efficiency, effectiveness).

  • Support all Waimea ResearchCenter-wide goals and initiatives. Interact and assist otherprojects at the location as needed.

  • Promote positive work attitudesand harmonious relations.

Qualifications

The following are required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability and willingness to workoutdoors and indoors in hot, cold, dry, and wet environmental conditions

  • Ability and willingness to liftup to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Ability and willingness to workovertime, weekends, and holidays as needed

The following are preferred:

  • Associates Degree inAgriculture or related field

  • Agriculture experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to use computers,iPads, and mobile devices

  • Working Knowledge of MicrosoftOffice programs

  • Basic mathematical skills andexperience
