DuPont is seeking an Electrical Control Systems Engineer for our Washington Works Plant in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

The Manufacturing Technology Control Systems Engineer will provide day-to-day technical expertise and technical support for the chemical processes at the site. The successful candidate will join an integrated team, including: process chemical and mechanical engineers. The responsibilities of the position include: solution of process problems, identifying and implementing process improvements, and leading teams and/or projects for longer-term improvements

The Manufacturing Technology Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Providing electrical engineering expertise for the chemical processes at the site.

  • Troubleshooting process issues & providing technical support to the operations team as required.

  • Leading or participating on teams to upgrade processes and products ranging from incremental improvements to major technology changes.

  • Executing the change management processes to execute improvements in equipment and control (Process change requests, Change of design, etc.).

  • The job scope includes identifying, developing the scope, and leading minor and medium Capital improvement projects, as well as leading the electrical part on major capital improvement projects.

  • Maintain and provide technical support electrical distribution system, including AC and DC power, process and utility equipment.

  • Develop and manage reliability program for electrical equipment, including specific work and preventative maintenance procedures

  • Distributed Control System (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) configuration and programming, troubleshooting, and capital project implementation.

  • Manage process Alarm Systems and interlocks

  • Support, develop and implement strategies for improving instrumentation and process monitoring equipment.


Required Attributes:

  • B.S. or higher degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited university. Advanced degree holders are encouraged to apply.

  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA.

  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively as an electrical engineer in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Higher experience levels encouraged to apply; job level and compensation offered to be commensurate upon experience.

Functional Skills

  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical and instrumentation equipment selection/specification, calibration and troubleshooting.

  • Working knowledge of DCS, PLC or single loop controllers. Preferably knowledge of Honeywell DCS & Modicon PLC equipment.

  • Thorough knowledge of E&I drawings including electrical schematics, logic diagrams and P&I diagrams.

  • Working knowledge of HMI interface programming & modification.

  • Knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution systems.

  • Understanding of Safety and process interlocks, PFD calculation,

  • Knowledge of electrical standards and Process Safety Management (PSM) process and value for safety rules and procedures.

  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Six Sigma or reliability analytical tools.

General Skills

  • Good written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must be self-motivated and have great attention to detail.

  • Strong trouble shooting skills.

  • Ability to learn and work independently.

  • Ability to work with others involved in a variety of functions including operators, mechanics, engineers of various disciplines, management, and other leaders
