DuPontis seeking a Mechanical Testing Engineer for our Washington Works PhysicalTesting Laboratory unit in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

The Manufacturing Technology Mechanical Engineer will provide day-to-day technical expertise and technical support for the Physical Testing Laboratory processes at the site. The successful candidate will join an integrated team including process chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineers. The responsibilities of the position includes: solution of process problems, identifying and implementing process improvements, and leading teams and/or projects for longer-term improvements.

Detailedresponsibilities include:

  • Providing technical expertise for the PhysicalTesting processes at the site laboratory, including: blow-molding,injection molding, CNC milling, tensile testing, etc.

  • Providing technical support to theoperations team as required.

  • Leading or participating on teams toupgrade processes and products ranging from incremental improvements tomajor technology changes.

  • Drive Reliability of lab processingequipment, including spare parts, failure analysis, asset care, etc.

  • Maintain laboratory process complianceto standards such as: ISO, ASTM, etc.

  • Mentoring and assisting of others inoperations training and documentation.

  • Leading/participating in PSM Technologyelement teams and Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) teams.

  • Executing the change management processesto execute improvements.

  • Leading or serving on project teams todrive continuous improvement working on areas such as yield, uptime, fixedand variable cost reductions, and working capital reductions.


  • BS or MS in MechanicalEngineering from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Experience in amanufacturing environment/production facility.

  • Ability to workwith others involved in a variety of functions including operators,mechanics, engineers of various disciplines, and management to positivelyimpact plant performance parameters.

  • Ability toadjust to changes in work tasks, situations and processes


  • Broad-basedknowledge of polymer thermoplastics.

  • Familiarity withphysical testing-type equipment related to tensile, impact and thermalproperties of materials.

  • Knowledge aroundplastics molding equipment.

  • Familiarity withCNC machining equipment.

  • Experience with Reliabilityand Root Cause Failure Analysis or other problem-solving techniques.

  • Ability toassimilate the unit operation information into actions that impactimportant criteria including process safety, ingredient yield, cycle time,product quality, and capacity.

  • Knowledge of statisticalanalysis.

  • Familiarity withISO and ASTM testing standards.
