This individual would provide Fire Protection & Emergency Response leadership, system expertise, and technical support to ensure that facilities, employees and businesses are safe from the threat of fire at global sites worldwide. This individual is responsible for leading the Fire Safety & Emergency Response corporate governance, and providing oversight on new engineering projects & improvements at all manufacturing sites, and existing fire protection & emergency response systems. As a member of a Center of Excellence-Environmental, Health & Safety (CoE-EHS), the individual is expected to network, coordinate and collaborate with all the team members, including others in CoE for Emergency Response & Planning, Manufacturing Technology, and Fire Protection & Emergency Response resources at manufacturing sites. Working with engineering contractors and other discipline engineers, to provide oversight including review of detailed engineering documents is expected. To support existing facilities, the individual is responsible for reviewing fire safety evaluations including code/standards compliance of industrial complexes to determine not only the risk of fire and explosions, but how best to prevent them and ensure adequate emergency response. As a key member of the CoE-EHS the individual is also responsible for coaching and providing technical expertise as needed to less experienced engineers and site fire safety & emergency response resources engaged in system reviews and analyses in all regions world-wide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop &lead corporate governance practices for Fire Safety & EmergencyResponse

  • Provideengineering expertise and oversight for fire system design and hazards/riskanalyses

  • Participatein 2 nd and 3 rd party facility fire safety &emergency response audits, and 1 st party assessments asrequested

  • Develop fireprotection & emergency response strategies for protecting chemical facilities

  • Provide expertiseand guidance, as needed, on NFPA code interpretations to engineers,contractors and industrial complex leaders

  • Provide fire codeanalyses and integration of various NFPA code requirements to assurecompliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Work withengineers of other disciplines to make recommendations to the company forcost effective fire protection & emergency response solutions.

  • Provide expertise on fire safety &emergency response systems/equipment design including fire detection,alarm, and fire suppression system, firepump and water flow, smoke control, emergency lighting,communication, and egress systems

  • Guide theevaluation of the performance of existing fire protection & emergencyresponse systems to verify that they are suitable for the hazards theyprotect

  • Provide expertiseon fire protection system inspection and testing including pumps, watersystem, alarm, and suppression systems

  • Guide theutilization of fire risk identification/assessment services.

  • Guide the planningand performance of commissioning tests on all levels of fire protectionsystems

  • Prepare for,facilitate preparation of technical reports.

  • Deliver/assistwith training seminars and presentations

  • Assist withon-site quality reviews, site observation, and system testing

  • Assist withthe development of emergency response plans and procedures

  • Act as liaisonwith code enforcement officials

  • Conduct fire cause investigations including rootcause failure analysis

Qualifications

Minimum Skills Required

  • Fire Protection Engineering(preferred) or Chemical Engineering degree.

  • At least 7 years’experience in fire protection & emergency response system design inthe chemical manufacturing sector

  • FireInvestigation Certification (e.g. 40 to 80 hrs of Continuing EducationTraining with Testing)

  • Provenexpertise/experience with the National Fire Protection Code (NFPA) interpretationand guidance

  • Understanding andproven competency in fire safety, fire protection systems, emergencyresponse systems, and special hazards

  • Experience with system modeling and design software.

  • Experience inreading engineering design drawings (P&ID, PFD, instrument diagrams, etc).

  • Experience inproducing technical reports.

  • Knowledge of firesafety & emergency response management and safeguarding facilities andsystems.

  • Experienceworking in an engineering consulting or manufacturing environment (preferred).

  • Knowledge of general engineering methods, practices, andterminology.

This individual will likely be located at a Corteva TM corporate office in the United States.

Global travel (20-40%) is required, often on a short notice.
