This position is for a Lead Pipefitter, who will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing facility and research piping/tubing systems as well as developing and implementing best practice maintenance programs for the FS&RE facilities located at Chestnut Run Plaza (CRP). The Lead Pipefitter will work alongside and directly with the onsite contactor maintenance workforce ensuring the quality of their work. It is expected that the successful candidate, if not immediately, over time, will also be able to install, repair and maintain and/or oversee these activities completed by others for other building related mechanical systems ensuring the quality of the work.

Responsibilities and Required Skills

  • Works directly with researcher, facility engineer, construction manager and/or planner to offer suggestions on potential equipment design or fabrication technique improvements.

  • Receives instructions, prints, and work orders for various jobs. Plans details of working procedure and makes lists of required tools and materials.

  • Fabricates, installs or make repairs to pumps, piping/tubing systems for a variety of operations including building/site steam and condensate, air and nitrogen supplies, RO/DI water, low and high pressure reactor systems, cylinder gas manifolds and delivery systems, etc.

  • Performs quality assurance and inspections to insure work is within specifications and tolerances.

  • Develop, review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements (knowledge, skills abilities):

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

  • Journeyperson certification OR six years or more of experience as a Pipefitter Mechanic.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, orthographic prints and follow all related engineering standards and government regulated codes.

  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with researchers, facility engineers, construction managers and/or planner to offer suggestions on potential equipment or system designs.

  • Demonstrated ability to take field measurements, draw sketches, develop parts lists, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to fabricate, layout, assemble and install piping and tubing systems utilizing a variety of materials including carbon steel, stainless steels, copper, brass, galvanized and plastic from 1/16" up to 10" in diameter.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of materials of construction and their proper application within a research environment.

  • Must be able to discern colors.

  • Must be able to frequently stand, climb, lift, pull and/or push, carry, grasp, reach, stoop and crouch.

  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment maintaining positive interpersonal relations with a diverse population of peers, customers and leadership.

Preferred (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in a Commercial/Industrial Maintenance environment as a mechanic.

  • Working knowledge and the ability to utilize computer systems/software programs including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.).
