DuPont PVAM is a leading materials supplier to the solar energy industry, with products designed to boost the power output and reliable lifetime of solar panels. Our technical capabilities extend from materials to modules and installed systems, including fundamental material science; backsheet, cell and module processes and architecture; accelerated test design; and measurement of performance and degradation in accelerated tests and in PV fields.

The PV Reliability R&D group supports our marketing and product development efforts, including regular sales and marketing and downstream (end use) marketing with technical data, analysis, maintaining key industry technical relationships, and customer support. A key component of this work is understanding the degradation of PV modules and their components (backsheets) through accelerated testing and from analysis of modules from installed PV fields.

DPVS seeks a Principal Investigator to develop, design, and execute experiments and research projects to understand the degradation of PV modules, their components, and materials. A goal of this work is to demonstrate and quantify the performance differences for different materials, components and modules. The effort involves design and execution of accelerated tests and analysis of modules from the field. It is expected that work may involve external partners and collaborators and may lead projects or teams. This person will work closely with other members of the global reliability team, and the DPVS marketing team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments and studies using accelerated tests and analysis of fielded modules to compare the performance of modules and components containing DuPont products vs competitors

  • Develop studies and analysis of data on module and material degradation to support our reliability value proposition and create documents for customer interactions

  • Coordinate and work closely with other members of the global reliability team

  • Provide technical analysis and support to regular and downstream marketing in N. America

  • Help maintain our thought leadership with presentations at key PV conferences and developing / maintaining key technical relationships in the PV industry

This position will be based at the Experimental Station (ESL) and use labs at ESL and Chestnut Run. Travel to customer meetings, and some conferences is expected at 20% level.


  • PhD. In Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or related field

  • 5 years or more PV industry experience preferred

  • Strong technical background and expertise

  • Excellent leadership and organization skills. Ability to design, execute and manage multiple projects

  • Ability to work on teams within and across functions.

  • Ability and experience to work externally with partners and customers

  • Self-starter; independent achiever and highly motivated

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Results oriented: taking initiative, overcoming obstacles, finding creative solutions, able to set clear priorities and goals and deliver against them
