The Emerging Technology research organization within DuPont Electronics & Imaging has an opening for a Polymer Scientist . We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Emerging Technologies team to commercialize new polymers.
JOB DESCRIPTION (functional responsibilities):
Polymer Processing and Characterization: This role requires a deep understanding of polymer science to create the structure-property relationships of polymer thin films and coatings. Specifically, we are looking to connect polymer chemistry, physics and processing to the mechanical, optical, and thermal properties of our materials for advanced electronics. The successful candidate will be joining a cross-functional and global team to move products from concept to commercialization. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills that spans presenting technical results, partnering with our manufacturing organization to facilitate scale up, and engaging customers to understand and troubleshoot the design, fabrication, and evaluation of our material’s in their application.
Knowledge & experience:
Technical: Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Polymer Physics, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science & Engineering. 10+ years’ experience strongly preferred.
Thorough understanding of the structure/property relationship of polymer thin films and coatings
Previous experience in formulation, polymer processing, and characterization
Experience in the successful development and commercialization of industrial polymers
Experience in technical patent strategy for product development
A history of customer engagement
Prior history in polyimide chemistry, processing, or characterization is preferred
Practical knowledge in thin film manufacturing is preferred
Experience in modeling the thin film mechanics of polymers is preferred
Demonstrated experience in organic chemistry, polymer synthesis is preferred
Previous experience understanding the role of dielectric polymer films and the assembly of advanced electronics is preferred
Understanding of project management principles and basic business processes is preferred
Team player – demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, cross functional, global work environment
Leadership – ability to guide the work of others
Communication – ability to communicate efficiently and effectively across functions and regions, particularly at customer interface.
Project management – ability to initiate, design, and execute on an independent technical project
Results oriented – combined with attention to detail and a focus on quality
