The Safety & Construction business is part of the DowDuPont Specialty Products Division and is a global leader in products and solutions that protect what matters – people, structures, and the environment. The Dow Water and Process Solutions Emerging Technologies team has an exciting career opportunity for a Scientist or Engineer to support the scouting and development of opportunities in markets that extend the current platform of products and open up growth opportunities for the business. Some of the exciting areas of interest include the use of novel nanofiber nonwoven materials with membrane technologies and new chemistries to address unmet needs in Liquid and Air Filtration applications. Areas of interest for the Emerging Technologies team include filtration and separation products for biopharma processing, industrial, food and beverage, power, oilfield and electronics applications. In addition, this role will involve open innovation and technology scouting to drive business growth.

Job locations may include: Wilmington, DE; Edina, MN, and Midland, MI.


Our ResearchInvestigators define, lead, and execute technical programs focused on creating new materials and establishing a fundamental understanding of them, so that they can be manifested into new products or potentially entire technology platforms.

This position is within the Dow Water and Process Solutions – Emerging Technologies Global R&D Group, which is responsible to drive growth by identifying, scouting and incubating new technologies, new products, and applications that extend into new markets.

More specifically, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Defining, leading, andexecuting material and product development programs

  • Driving new productdevelopment for applications with strategic customers globally that drivestrategic growth in air and liquid filtration, and new opportunities fornanofiber technologies

  • Working closely withcustomers, technical service, manufacturing, marketing, and other R&Dcolleagues to understand the needs of the market and customer criticalproduct requirements

  • Staying current withmarket trends and innovation areas in key market segments; maintainscomprehensive product, brand, and industry knowledge

  • Conducting lab work and/ordirecting the work of one or more lab technicians

  • Participating incross-functional teams, represented by various technical and non-technicaldisciplines

  • Working closely withindividuals and teams focused on application developments

  • Partnering with engineersto scale processes to pilot and commercial production

  • Managing intellectualproperty (IP); understanding relevant IP and competitive landscapes andactively developing new IP

  • Partnering with externalconsultants, vendors, and other entities to efficiently execute programs,as needed

  • Writing and communicatingtechnical reports and presentations

  • Being an active member ofthe broader technology community within Safety & Construction andDuPont

Knowledge andExperience:

  • Ph.D. (preferred) in Material Science , Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field with knowledge innanofibers, nonwovens and/or filtration

  • Experience at thepost-doctoral level will be considered as will work experience up to fiveyears beyond graduation/post-doc completion

  • Experience with polymercomposites, fibers, nonwovens and/or membranes is desirable

  • Capable of leadingprojects through the complete development cycle

  • Proven practical andtechnical expertise in the area of product and/or application developmentin microfiltration applications and/or air filtration applications

  • Knowledge and experiencewith nanofiber technologies preferred

  • Knowledge ofmicrofiltration and cartridge filtration preferred
